Mark is a public opinion research advisor with the City of Edmonton. He has worked both as a research supplier and a client. Starting his career in Atlantic Canada, Mark moved to Alberta in 2009. He has worked on a number of local and national projects across a wide-range of sectors and consumer services. Mark has a focus on the use of new technology in market research.

Mark has a political science degree from the University of Prince Edward Island.


Barry is an Associate Vice President at Leger, The Research Intelligence Group. He has over 20 years’ marketing research project management experience. He holds an MBA degree in Marketing and obtained the CMRP designation in 2008.

Leger is a full service, Gold Seal Member of the MRIA.

jihad melhem (communications)

For over 20 years, Jihad has served as a trusted resource for senior leaders in the public and private sectors on how research can support their sales and growth objectives and meeting service delivery imperatives. Prior to becoming the President of Pivotal Research, Jihad held several high profile research and consulting roles including as Vice President at Morpace International, Market Research and Consulting. Jihad also served as the Global Director of Market Research at Sun Life Financial where he spearheaded the implementation of customer value management in more than 7 global key markets.

Jihad holds a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Statistics from the University of Alberta, and an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University. He also completed advanced marketing research certificates at the University of Georgia and at the University of Notre Dame.

MARK LOO, phd (academic liaison)

Mark is currently an Associate Professor at the Mihalcheon School of Business, Concordia University of Edmonton and has a PhD in Management (Marketing) from Multimedia University Malaysia.  He operated his own management, sales and marketing training consultancy for 12 years after working for domestic and multinational firms. The brands he has managed include Canon, Eva Airlines, Huggies, Kleenex, Kotex, Maggi, Paul Scerri Cosmetics, and Toys-R-Us.


Fernando is an associate professor in the Department of International Business, Marketing, Strategy and Law at MacEwan University. He holds a PhD in marketing and market research, and the CMRP designation.

During the past thirteen years, Fernando has been involved in marketing research across three continents. He has worked as a marketing research analyst in Peru. Fernando has taught marketing research at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) and at MacEwan University (Canada). He is currently involved in research in marketing and international business. He also provides consulting to organizations.

WEBB DUSSOME, CMRP (education)

Webb has taught marketing classes to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Alberta, School of Business since 1996.

He has established a speakers bureau for educators wanting to have an industry professional speak to their classes about marketing research, and he continues to be active with student groups. Webb received his CMRP designation in 2010.

Anastasia Arabia (Events chair - edmonton)

Anastasia Arabia has served as President of both the Alberta Board and the MRIA National Board. She has 25 years of experience on the supply side of marketing research. In 2003, Anastasia and Denise Nowicki opened Trend Research in Edmonton. The company has grown to a 75 station call centre, with an online survey division and two focus group suites.

paige schoenfeld (EVENTS CHAIR - calgary)

Paige is passionate and client focused, a versatile qualitative and quantitative researcher with a specialization in lotteries & gaming and advertising & brand strategy research. She helps her clients to better understand their market, where opportunities exist, optimizing the product portfolios and much more. With a strong dedication to her clients and their projects, Paige takes a special interest to bring clients new and innovative approaches for better business solutions.

FRANK GRIGEL, CMRP (past president)

Frank has an academic background in social science research.  He has worked on the client side with the Parks Canada Agency and currently with SAIT Polytechnic.

With wide-ranging experience in marketing research, Frank has also focused on streamlining business processes and expanding business interests into new markets. He obtained the CMRP designation in 2008.

KRISTINA CIGIć, CMRP (emerging leaders task force liaison)

Kristina is a Research Manager at ATB Financial, specializing in research for Reputation & Brand, Retail Financial Services and Investing. She has over eight years of experience with qualitative and quantitative method, working in client-side marketing research.  Kristina holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Calgary, where her focus was public opinion and electoral behaviour. Kristina received her CMRP designation in 2016.
